Pep Guardiola says Eric Garcia could become Barcelona captain

Pep Guardiola believes Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia are both brilliant signings for Barcelona, but has predicted that the young centre-back will go on to captain the club.

City will wave goodbye to Aguero this summer who will leave the Etihad after a glorious decade and join La Liga giants Barcelona upon the expiration of his contract.

Following the club record goalscorer to the Camp Nou will be teammate Garcia, who is also leaving the club on a free transfer after rejecting the chance to extend his deal and remain in Manchester.

The 20-year-old is a Barcelona native and will be returning to his childhood club after leaving the famed La Masia academy as a teenager to join City in 2017.

Guardiola is a huge fan of Garcia after bringing him into the first team when he was just 17 years old and wanted him to stay at the club.

However, the Blues boss is predicting big things for him in Barcelona.

“Agüero and Eric García are two great signings,” he told Spanish radio station Que T’hi Jugues. “Total hits.

“Kun is a scorer, with Eric I already told Koeman that he has made a spectacular signing, he will be one of the captains of the next decade.”

Guardiola was also asked if there had been any interest from Barcelona for him to return to the club where he won so much, but he was quick to reiterate he remains happy at City.

“Interest from Barça?” he said. “I have a two-year contract at City, I am happy and it will continue to be so.”
