Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright has told Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling to resolve his future as soon as possible.

The 26-year-old has had his game time reduced this season, and the player has stalled on signing a new contract with the Citizens. Speculation about a potential departure has gathered pace, with both Barcelona and Arsenal linked. Wright claims that the England international should look to end uncertainty over his future:

“Whatever’s going on with City at some stage you look at the importance of Raheem Sterling, I think he proved that at the Euros. Going into the Euros he wasn’t playing as frequently as he’d liked to have been playing but then he showed it at a tournament. You’re looking at a player who is easily one of our most potent players who isn’t playing at his club, at some stage, he’s going to have to sort it out.”

“We know that Gareth will pick him and come the World Cup as long as he’s fit he’ll be going. But from a personal view whatever is going on with him and the manager, I think it was after a game against Man United then it was Southampton he went and had a word with him but since then been out of it. At some stage, something has to happen where he’s playing more regularly.”

While some reports suggest that Sterling has resolved his differences with manager Pep Guardiola, there appears to be no progress in talks on extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium beyond the end of the 2022/23 season.

At the moment, it does seem like City are heading into another Leroy Sane situation whereby they will have to think about selling up next summer to prevent the Sterling from leaving for nothing. We shall see how this story develops.
