Manchester City forward Ferran Torres is expected to complete his move to Barcelona in a matter of days, according to multiple reports.

The Citizens have agreed an initial €55m (£46m) fee, which could rise to €60m (£50m) depending on appearances. The Premier League champions have more than doubled the €23m (£21m) they paid for the Spaniard back in August last year.

Supporters on Twitter were somewhat disappointed that Torres was allowed to leave but the majority are now hoping that the money will be put to good use as they attempt to sign a new number nine:

good riddance, now bring haaland home

This is sad. His going to be a top player. We normally don’t sell top players.

If we use that money to buy @ErlingHaaland then I am happy with that. ?

Get Dusan Vlahovic for 70 and we are good.

At this stage, nobody is quite sure which striker the Manchester club will be making their number one target, but the likes of Erling Haaland and Dusan Vlahovic are likely to be on the radar.

Torres’s departure does make a January arrival a lot more likely, although City rarely do big business midway through the season, so we shall see what next month holds.
